I met Heidi and Steven through a fellow photographer and friend of mine, who jokingly – but bluntly – said, “don’t mess it up” as he asked me to photograph his niece’s wedding. No pressure.
Our first meeting was at Epcot Center at Disney where we did their engagement session, which was a unique venue to work with – little did I know they would follow it up with the Florida Aquarium in Tampa as their ceremony site. Surrounded by huge sharks (who seemed trained to show up at the right time) and well-dressed penguins (who poop every 15 minutes, in case you wanted to know that), these two had a unique take on everything they did for their day. We moved from the ceremony site to random pockets of light in the darkened facility to make pictures in the beautiful exhibits. The night took a turn to party time and moved into the reception sit at a tiki bar at the aquarium as the sun set over downtown Tampa.
These guys let loose after dinner, taking to the bar and erupting in dance party and swallowing up the bar with the friends. I’ve never seen anyone order 30 lemon drops. All in great fun, these guys genuinely loved each other even more than they did in eighth grade. That’s right eighth grade. I don’t think I can even remember the name of one my middle school girlfriends, let along marry one. That’s truly an amazing and rare thing to marry your high-school sweetheart and I’m so blessed to be able to witness and document it.
