Weddings are a funny business. One of the first things Elise did is on her reception night was she pulled me aside and said “You know, your blog is really intimidating.” She went on to jokingly tell me that she read most of the posts and I always say things like “this was one of the best weddings ever” or “x and x were really amazing people” or “this venue was perfect and the lighting glorious.” I don’t know if I say all those things, but I do tend to go on and on about my clients and their day. Elise was hopeful hers would live up to that. I laughed it off, and told it was awesome and everything was perfect, well, because it was. Elise and Josh had nothing to worry about. It was the perfect mix of everything.
I think it’s one of the crazy things about weddings – especially for brides and grooms. There will always be pressure to have the wedding out-do the last one you attended. The flowers smellier, the venue grander, the dress more fashionable. There’s always something to spend money on, so I get the pressure. I compare my photos to other photographers. We all do it. Elise and Josh were really just happy and beautiful people, who were so much fun to photograph and hang out with. Their friends and family loved them, and the super-secret private venue was awesome to shoot at. Visually stunning, classy, and just a big party for all attending.
I’m always just really grateful to be the one photographer out of thousands out there chosen to come and document a bride and groom’s day. THAT is an amazing thing. Everything else for me is just icing on the proverbial cake. Spending a few hours making pictures, chasing light, and just being part of the family – if even for the day. It’s a beautiful thing to be a part of.
Congrats Elise and Josh – here’s to many years of happiness!
